The CIMIC cell of the National Contingent deployed in the EUTM mission in Somalia continues to support the evacuees of the capital districts

Somalia, July, 2021.
The CIMIC Team of the National Contingent in support of the EUTM-Somalia mission continues the distribution of food aid which began, at the request of the Governor of Benadir, last November. So far, 36 tons of aid have been distributed to around 6,400 displaced people, mostly families, currently located in the camps of Dharkeyneley, Shingani, Deynile, Busione, Yaqshid, Warta Nabada, Kaxda, in the Banadir region, and Arbiska, in Lower Shebeli.
The aid program, in the next quarter, will reach another 4,000 displaced persons, distributing 23 tons of food, both in the Benadir region (Karan, Hawla Wadag) and in Lower Scebeli (Afgoi, Gianale, Km 50). After the distribution in the fields of the capital, in agreement with the Chief of Staff of the Local Armed Forces, Gen. Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, the Italian CIMIC will intervene in favor of the areas freed from al-Shabab threat, bringing aid to the population thanks to the close partnership achieved with the Somali National Army.
Each single distributed “kit” contains about 50 kg of food material, divided between flour, rice, sugar, legumes, oil and other basic necessities. The aid was directed following the indications provided by the District Commissioners, territorial representatives who have the task of identifying the neediest households to whom they are destined.
