An intense week of training, practical exercises, and realistic operational scenarios: the CIMIC Orientation Course 1/25 provided participants with a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) in NATO operations. From February 17 to 21, 2025, at the Multinational CIMIC Group in Motta di Livenza, 28 military and civilian personnel from various NATO nations took part in this key training event, strengthening their expertise in the field of CIMIC.
Designed to provide a comprehensive overview of NATO’s approach to civil-military collaboration, the course focused on the fundamental principles of CIMIC, emphasizing the key roles, responsibilities, and tasks within multinational operations. Through a combination of theoretical lessons, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of the operational challenges in complex environments with sensitive political and legal implications.
For the first time in the history of the CIMIC Orientation Course, an Article 5 NATO scenario was introduced, allowing participants to engage with high-intensity conflict dynamics. This new feature made the training even more realistic and strategic, highlighting the crucial role of civil-military cooperation in NATO’s collective defense framework. Through practical exercises and case studies, participants tested their knowledge in real-world scenarios, enhancing their ability to operate in critical situations.
Under the guidance of experienced CIMIC instructors and subject matter experts, the CIMIC Orientation Course remains a benchmark in the training portfolio of the Multinational CIMIC Group. The continuous evolution of its content and teaching methodologies ensures that NATO personnel are increasingly prepared to tackle modern operational challenges with skill and professionalism.
Thanks to this ever-evolving approach, the course reaffirms itself as a cornerstone in the preparation of CIMIC operators, promoting more effective integration between military forces and civil society to address global challenges with greater efficiency and readiness.
