MNCG OPERATORS TRAIN AMISOM OFFICERS
EUTM-S Italian Civil and Military Cooperation specialists concluded a CIMIC training in support of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF)

The CIMIC cell, as part as the European Union Training Mission Somalia, has trained twenty Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) officers as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). AMISOM officers completed five days of CIMIC training at headquarters in Mogadishu. The training was aimed at improving capabilities on the civil-military cooperation function, vital for the stabilisation of crisis areas or post-conflict zones.
"Your commitment, demonstrated during theoretical and practical activities, has shown a strong interest in the subject and I congratulate you on this," Lieutenant Colonel Mineo stated during the final ceremony, adding that “...the enthusiasm shown will be fundamental to counter terrorism in the area."
Colonel Ismail Sendagire, representative of the Ugandan Contingent, underlined the fundamental function of civil-military cooperation which, through the development of core functions, is functional to peacekeeping. The Ugandan Officer also thanked the support given by EUTM-S and its Commander, Brigadier General Fabiano Zinzone, for the continuous partnership that aims to make Somalia a stable and safe place.
Multinational CIMIC Group operators have developed modules to increase communication, empathic listening and negotiation techniques by integrating procedures with those used by local stakeholders.
