Pristina, April 2023
The Regional Command West (RC-W), based on the framework of the 9th Alpine Regiment, through the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) assets, made a major donation of medical and high-tech equipment in favor of the Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Department of the University Hospital in Pristina.
Through the support of the Joint Operations Headquarters (COVI), the "Vivere per Amare - Life to Love" Onlus, represented by vice president and member of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Capt. Mariano Barbi, provided pediatric venous catheters for chemotherapy therapy to the Kosovo hospital facility.
In addition to the medical devices, 20 multimedia devices were delivered to enable the young hospitalized patients to maintain contact with their loved ones and educational institutions.
The activity is part of the cooperation between KFOR, local institutions, and the "Nicola Ciardelli"
association, and aims to develop new clinical capacities as well as increase local health standards.
The support to the local health institutions, as highlighted by Colonel Mario Bozzi, RC-W Commander, in his greeting to the representatives of the hospital facility, represents the concrete
implementation of the motto of Mission KFOR XXVII "Shaping the Presence for a Better Future," i.e. laying the foundations to enable young people, in particular, to live a better future.
Men and women of the Italian Armed Forces, together with KFOR's multinational component, ensure freedom of movement and the maintenance of a safe and secure environment for the benefit of all communities in Kosovo, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
